Bread for choripan
Bread for choripan
Choripán bread is a key element in popular Argentine food. It is characterized by being a crispy, toasted baguette or bread roll, which is filled with a delicious grilled sausage called chorizo. This combination of textures and flavors is a favorite at barbecues and outdoor events in Argentina.
Ingredients
For the mass:
• 500 grams of wheat flour
• 10 grams of salt
• 10 grams of sugar
• 10 grams of fresh yeast
• 250 ml of warm water
• 2 tablespoons of olive oil
For the filling (choripan):
• Grilled sausages
• Chimichurri (sauce based on garlic, parsley, vinegar, olive oil and spices)
Before making homemade choripán bread, make sure you have good quality chorizos and fresh, flavorful chimichurri ready to season your delicious creation.
Preparation
1. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and add the sugar. Let it sit for a few minutes until it starts to foam.
2. In a large bowl, combine the wheat flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast and water mixture. Add the 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10-15 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if necessary to prevent the dough from being too sticky.
4. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let the dough rest and double in size, which will take about 1 hour.
5. Preheat your oven to 220 degrees Celsius.
6. Once the dough has doubled in size, divide it into portions to make the choripán breads of the size you want. Shape dough into balls and place on a floured or parchment-lined baking sheet.
7. Let the dough balls rest for another 15-20 minutes.
8. Bake the loaves in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.
9. While the breads are baking, you can grill the chorizos until they are cooked and nicely browned.
10. Once the breads are ready, cut them in half lengthwise and place the roasted chorizos inside.
11. Serve the choripán hot with chimichurri or your favorite condiments.
Enjoy your delicious homemade choripan!
