Bread without Oven

No-bake bread is a creative alternative in which the dough is made and cooked without a conventional oven.  It can be made in a frying pan, in a bread maker, or even in the microwave.  Although it varies in texture and flavor, it is a quick solution to enjoy homemade bread without the need for specialized equipment.

Ingredients:

• 2 cups (250 g) of wheat flour

• 1 teaspoon baking powder

• 1 teaspoon salt

• 1 teaspoon of sugar

• 3/4 cup (180 ml) warm milk

• 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil

Preparing bread without an oven is possible using a cast iron skillet or pot.  The process involves kneading the dough, letting it rise and then cooking it over low heat with a lid.

Preparation:

1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar.

2. Add the warm milk and vegetable oil to the dry mixture.  Begin mixing with a wooden spoon or spatula until the ingredients are combined.

3. Knead the dough on the lightly floured work surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

4. Divide the dough into smaller portions, depending on the size of the loaves you want to make.

5. Use a rolling pin to roll out each portion of dough into a circle of uniform thickness.  If you wish, you can make round loaves or shape them into ovals.

6. Heat a large skillet over medium heat.  No need to add oil.

7. Place a circle of dough in the hot pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until you see bubbles on the top and the bottom is golden brown.

8. Flip the bread and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side, until golden brown and cooked through.

9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough portions.

10. Once cooked, remove the breads from the pan and let them cool slightly before serving.

You can enjoy these breads in a skillet with butter, olive oil, jam, cheese or other ingredients of your choice.  Enjoy!
