Twix – pssst vegan

We love these vegan Twix! Now you can easily make the chocolate bars with caramel yourself thanks to our step-by-step instructions!

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE BISCUIT BASE

110 g vegan butter
150 g wheat flour (type 405 I 550)
50 g sugar
1 – 2 tbsp water

FOR THE CARAMEL LAYER

100 g vegan butter
250 g sugar
60 g vegan cream

FOR THE CHOCOLATE GLAZE

200 g vegan milk chocolate

PREPARATION

1. For the shortcrust pastry, cut the butter into small cubes. Mix the butter, flour & sugar. Add water & knead the ingredients into a smooth, firm shortcrust pastry. Refrigerate in an airtight container for 30 minutes.

2. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (top/bottom heat). Line a baking dish with baking paper. Take the dough out of the fridge and press it evenly into the baking dish. Prick several times with a fork. Bake on the middle rack for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool.

3. For the caramel layer, cut the butter into cubes. Spread the sugar evenly in a coated pan. Melt the sugar over low heat. Do not stir, just gently swirl the pan now and then.

4. Carefully add the cream to the caramel and stir until it has combined with the melted sugar. If the mixture solidifies, wait until the mixture simmers slightly, then the sugar will melt again. Gradually stir in the butter. Remove the pan from the heat and let the caramel cool for 5-10 minutes.

5. Spread the caramel on the shortcrust pastry. Leave to set in the fridge for at least 1 hour.  Then lift them out of the mold using the baking paper and cut them into narrow rectangles (7 cm long and 1 cm wide) using a sharp knife. Cool the bars again.

6. In the meantime, chop the chocolate. Melt half of the chocolate over a water bath at low heat. Remove the bowl from the water bath and stir in the remaining chocolate.

7. Dip the bars into the melted chocolate and let them drip off on a cake rack. Allow the chocolate glaze to set at room temperature.
