Mexican shells

Mexican conchas are a typical bread in all corners of Mexico, it is usually vanilla or chocolate flavored.  Everyone likes it for its exquisite flavor, which emanates tradition, as well as an explosion of flavors that perfectly identify Mexican cuisine.

Ingredients

To make the famous Mexican conchas, you will have to gather each of the following ingredients:

• 2 tablespoons of cocoa, which will be used for the crust.

• 2 tablespoons of milk, preferably warm cow’s milk.

• 1 tablespoon of yeast, this must be dry.

• 125 grams or a cup of wheat flour to be used for the crust.

• 4 cups of wheat flour.

• 125 grams or a cup of powdered sugar, which will be for the crust.

• ½ teaspoons of salt.

• ½ cups of sugar.

• 1 cup of vegetable shortening, which will be needed for the crust.

• 2 eggs.

• 2 cups of milk, which should be whole milk.

• ½ tablespoons of liquid vanilla.

• 90 grams of butter, this must be at room temperature.

Steps

The first step to prepare the Mexican shells is to preheat the oven to 180 degrees.  After that, you can begin to complete each step that you will see below.

Step 1

You will need to add the milk to the dry yeast and let it rest for approximately 10 minutes.

Step 2

Find the mixer and start adding the hydrated yeast, eggs, vanilla essence, sugar, flour, salt and milk.  It is recommended to beat until you have a dough.

Step 3

To this mixture you must add the butter and mix until everything is perfectly combined.

Step 4

You will have to let this dough rest for 2 hours.

Step 5

To prepare the crust, mix the flour with the icing sugar and the vegetable shortening.  After you have the dough, you must separate it in half, adding cocoa powder to one half and vanilla essence to the other.  Then reserve them.

Step 6

Assemble the balls and flatten them with your hand.  You must reserve them in a bowl.

Step 7

Then, take the crust mass and flatten it, it should be the same size as the shell mass.  Later, you will have to apply the crust to the shells.

Step 8

Bake them for 15 minutes.  Then they will be ready to serve.

This way you will have an exquisite dessert with the famous Mexican conchas, ideal to share with your family or closest friends.
