French bread or bolillo

Today we are going to give you an easy recipe for French bread or bolillos so that you can make them yourself in your kitchen.  Below you will find the step-by-step recipe, a video and tips.

Ingredients:

• 500 grams of wheat flour

• 2 tablespoons of salt

• 1 spoon of sugar

• 1 and a half tablespoons of dry yeast

• 1 and a half cups of water

• 3 tablespoons of vegetable shortening or oil

Preparation:

1. Form a bowl of flour, place the yeast and half a cup of water in the center to dissolve.  Wait 10 minutes for the yeast to activate.

2. Gradually mix the wheat flour with the water.  Add salt and sugar gradually.

3. Add the vegetable shortening or oil and continue to integrate the dough vigorously.

4. Knead for 10 minutes until forming an elastic and firm dough.  It should come off the preparation table easily.

5. Once the consistency is reached, place the dough in a bowl and cover it with plastic so that it does not dry out.  Let it rest until it doubles in size.  At a temperature of 23ºC.  It takes approximately 1 hour, this may vary depending on conditions.

6. Punch the dough and knead it vigorously again.  Cut it into 10 equal parts.

7. Take each of the parts and shape them into a ball.  Then flatten it a little and tuck the contours inward.  Finally, turn the dough a little towards the center so that it takes the shape of a bolillo.  You can place a little flour on the table to make the procedure easier.  Place them on a tray lined with wax paper.

8. Wait a moment for the dough to double in size again.

9. With a knife, make a cut approximately one centimeter deep along the bobbin.

10. Heat the oven to 250ºC and insert the tray.  At the bottom place another tray with water, this is the secret to making your bolillos perfect.  Bake for 15 minutes or until desired color is reached.
