• 2 cloves of garlic, minced

• 1 chopped tomato

• 1 chopped green pepper

• 1 teaspoon ground cumin

• 1 teaspoon paprika

• Salt and pepper to taste

• Oil for frying

Make sure you have the fresh ingredients and the dough ready before you start preparing it.  Enjoy this Brazilian delicacy!

Preparation

1. In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour and salt.  Then, add the oil and egg.  Start mixing and gradually add the water little by little until the dough becomes smooth and homogeneous.  Knead the dough for a few minutes, then cover it with a clean cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

2. While the dough rests, prepare the filling.  In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium-high heat.  Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until golden.

3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, breaking it into small pieces as you cook.

4. Add the chopped tomato and green pepper to the meat.  Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables soften.

5. Add the ground cumin, paprika, salt and pepper to taste.  Mix all the ingredients well and cook for a few more minutes.

6. Remove the pan from the heat and let the filling cool to room temperature.

7. After the dough has rested, roll it out with a rolling pin on a floured surface until it is about 2-3mm thick.

8. Cut the dough into circles approximately 10 cm in diameter.

9. Place a tablespoon of the prepared filling in the center of each dough circle.

10. Fold the dough in half to cover the filling and press the edges with a fork to seal the pie.

11. Heat enough oil in a large frying pan to fry the cakes.  When hot, fry them in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.

12. Remove the meat pies from the oil and place them on absorbent paper to remove excess fat.

13. Serve the Brazilian meat pies hot and enjoy.
